On 24th – 25th October 2016, BINUS UNIVERSITY hosted the 1st Presidents’ Forum which served as a platform to encourage entrepreneurship amongst enrolled university students in Indonesia. The event – that was held as part of the university’s 35th anniversary – was attended by 100 participants which comprised of founders of start-up companies, government representatives, industry leaders as well as representatives from a number of local and international higher education institutions. Prominent attendees at the event included Mrs Karen Imam as Director of BINUS Global, Mr Andreas Diantoro as CEO of Microsoft Indonesia, Mr Gordon Hewitt as Chairman of Global Advisory Board, and Mr Idris Gautama So, S.Kom., SE, MM, MBA., PhD as Vice Rector of Global Employability and Entrepreneurship at BINUS UNIVERSITY among others.
BINUS UNIVERSITY utilised the theme of “Transformations and Innovations of Higher Education as Enablers of Start-ups’ Growth” and as such demonstrated the university’s acknowledgments of newly-established local businesses. As a university committed to producing highly-skilled graduates with an emphasis on entrepreneurial spirit, BINUS UNIVERSITY thus actively carries out initiatives in order to support the growth of fast-emerging companies. The 1st Presidents’ Forum programme also engaged participants in a number of forum discussions which primarily focused on the role of higher education institutions in encouraging entrepreneurialism; each session was led by key speakers including Mr Gideon Maas from Coventry University and Mr Kevin Downing from City University of Hong Kong. During the event, BINUS UNIVERSITY and its event partners signed a declaration which reiterated their commitment in nurturing youth leadership by promoting the importance of innovation as well as entrepreneurialism.
In understanding the importance of bolstering the number of entrepreneurs in Indonesia, BINUS UNIVERSITY hopes to increase the country’s competitiveness level among other local and overseas universities. As such, BINUS UNIVERSITY through the 1st Presidents’ Forum event demonstrated its adeptness in spearheading the future progress of Indonesia’s higher education sector.
