On 31st October 2016, BINUS UNIVERSITY held a workshop on computerised analysis of complex data sets in cooperation with Prof. Jennifer Widom as Fletcher Jones Professor of Computer Science and Chair of the Computer Science Department at Stanford University. Prof. Widom provided knowledge on the application of big data analytics to harness an organization’s internal data and identify new business opportunities through the development of products and services, reduce costs, and implement a streamlined business operation.
Prof. Widom utilised the use of Google Sheets as a practical tool to analyse a case study with students; an increasing number of leading multinational firms use platforms such as Google Sheets to integrate their data. Prof. Widom further reiterated that with the large variety of big data tools available in the market, it was important to select the correct platform to cater to the needs of a company or a project, with areas such as data extraction, storage capacity, data analysis, data visualization, data mining, and data integration becoming vital aspects to choosing the appropriate big data technology. As such, graduates equipped with the necessary skillset in analytics can provide business solutions in addition to capitalising on new channels of revenue.
BINUS UNIVERSITY’s most recent workshop demonstrates its commitment to producing graduates with an understanding on data analytics. Through the rapid processing and analysis of massive volumes of structured and unstructured data, Indonesian companies can transform the way new products and services are created as well as enhance customer satisfaction and improve operational efficiencies.
