BINUS UNIVERSITY through its Hotel Management programme recently attained the UNWTO.TedQual Certification – an international accreditation issued by the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) that aims to recognise the quality of education, research and training of tourism-related study programmes. As the first private university in Indonesia to achieve this certificate, BINUS UNIVERSITY has exclusively joined the UNWTO.TedQual network through which it can share knowledge, receive technical support, and engage in cooperation-for-development projects with other global institutions.
In attaining the UNWTO.TedQual Certification, the university’s Hotel Management programme was assessed over a broad range of criteria such as the accessibility and coherence of the curriculum, infrastructure and supporting facilities, faculty development, as well as the quality of the study programme in catering to the evolving needs of the Indonesian tourism industry. The evaluation was carried out by an independent expert from UNWTO.TedQual with the accreditation valid until 2022.
Other advantages of the university in obtaining this accolade include new opportunities for student and faculty exchange, internships, in addition to potential collaboration for joint research. BINUS UNIVERSITY will also benefit from being able to participate in annual events organised by UNWTO.TedQual and receive mentoring and training to further improve its Hotel Management programme. Furthermore, this certification cements the university’s reputation for international standards as the institution is also ABET and EPAS accredited for its engineering and accounting programmes respectively.
Through its recent achievement, BINUS UNIVERSITY graduates can positively impact Indonesia’s hospitality and tourism industries by developing important policies and initiatives that can fully optimise the contribution of these sectors to national economic growth.
