BINUS UNIVERSITY’s extensive international network of partners of higher education institutions as well as businesses enables its students to partake in a wide array of student mobility programmes, internships, and student exchange opportunities. On 28th August 2017, BINUS UNIVERSITY in partnership with renowned American technology companies, NVIDIA and Kinetica, launched the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research and Development Centre at its Anggrek campus in Jakarta. As the pioneer centre for the development of artificial intelligence in Indonesia, the facility aims to provide researchers with the foundation to advance this industry into various sectors of the Indonesian economy. Present at the event was Rector of BINUS UNIVERSITY Prof. Dr. Ir. Harjanto Prabowo; Ir. Bernard Gunawan as CEO of BINA NUSANTARA; Mr Raymond Tea as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Asia Pacific Region of NVIDIA; and Vice President for the Asia Pacific Region of Kinetica Mr Joseph Lee.
The R&D initiative will focus on developing cutting-edge technologies to create products and services that can tackle industry challenges in Indonesia; the research extends to areas such as machine learning technology, human-computer interaction, and language processing among others. By bringing together the expertise of NVIDIA and Kinetica, BINUS UNIVERSITY researchers can deliver experiences and capabilities that help societies and organisations become more productive and efficient.
From food security to healthcare and manufacturing, the diverse potential applications of AI technology in Indonesia can strengthen the country’s competitiveness and become a critical growth engine for development going forward.
