On 23rd March 2017, BINUS UNIVERSITY officially launched its #AussieBanget Corner located at its Library and Knowledge Centre, Anggrek Campus in Jakarta. The #AussieBanget Corner is a self-contained, Australian-themed open area and is a collaborative effort between the university and the Embassy of Australia aimed at promoting Australia as a destination for quality education as well as for increased cooperation between BINUS UNIVERSITY and its Australian university partners.
Present at the launching ceremony was the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, His Excellency (H.E.) Mr Paul Grigson, CEO of Bina Nusantara Group, Mr Ir. Bernard Gunawan, bestselling author and winner of the 2017 Outstanding Young Alumni Award Mr Fahd Pahdepie, as well as students and faculty members of BINUS UNIVERSITY. The event included a speech by H.E. Mr Paul Grigson who highlighted how students represent a significant proportion of all Indonesian visitor arrivals to Australia which therefore presents a solid foundation for collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries — BINUS UNIVERSITY currently partners with more than 10 Australian universities including La Trobe University, Macquarie University, RMIT University, University of New South Wales, University of Wollongong, Queensland University of Technology, and Murdoch University. Furthermore, Mr Pahdepie also shared with attendees his experience as a student in Australia and the personal development skills he obtained whilst abroad.
The Embassy of Australia also made available a large variety of award-winning non-fiction and fiction reading material as well as information regarding scholarships to study in Australia; enrolled students have also been given access to the National Library of Australia's online catalogue, e-Trove. Moreover, the corner will serve as a venue for official events held by the Embassy of Australia and the Consulate Office in addition to alumni activities.
With Indonesia and Australia experiencing improving relations in government, trade, and education, BINUS UNIVERSITY’s #AussieBanget Corner thus showcases the university’s leading qualities that make them ideal partners for Australian educational and diplomatic institutions in its search for innovation-driven collaborators.
