BINUS UNIVERSITY on 24th February 2016 took its latest step forward in preparing its faculty and students for greater regional integration by hosting a forum for members of the Passage to ASEAN (P2A) association. Established in 2012 in anticipation of the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), P2A is a network of ASEAN universities and institutions of higher education that collectively serve to offer their students ASEAN preparation programmes. BINUS UNIVERSITY first joined this association in mid-2014 as its 41st official member, and this year had the honour of welcoming representatives from other member universities to BINUS Square for a comprehensive series of events and forums.
In addition to providing visiting students with the chance to learn more about opportunities to immerse themselves in Indonesian culture at a local institution of higher education; the P2A event at BINUS UNIVERSITY also functioned as an opportunity for esteemed faculty members from P2A-affiliated universities to discuss the latest regional developments and strategies regarding how best to prepare their students for success amidst a new era of globalisation. Offering invaluable insights in this regard was the Deputy Secretary General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan, who also commended BINUS UNIVERSITY and fellow P2A members for their effort to focus on the theme of ‘Student Mobility among ASEAN Countries: Into One ASEAN’.
Also presenting at the P2A Forum were members of BINUS’ Department of International Relations, including Ms Paramitaningrum, Ph.D, whose speech centred on the benefit of enhancing the quality of education in spurring business across the ASEAN.
Going forward, BINUS UNIVERSITY through its involvement in initiatives such as the P2A association intends to take upon an active role in ensuring that Indonesia’s next generation of leaders are fully prepared for the realities of the AEC and are poised to contribute meaningfully to the region’s continued growth and development.
