As a university catering to the growing demand for high-quality business education, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya will launch its international student programme in 2017, which will focus on national and international issues related to economics and business. As part of the School of Business and Economics, the programme provides an alternative degree pathway for students; participants choosing this degree direction will be taught exclusively in the English language as part of their studies and is currently available for those undertaking the Business Economics degree programme. As part of the International Student Programme, students are also offered a foreign language course in Mandarin; Universitas Prasetiya Mulya is poised to make available additional languages in the near future. As such, the international student programme is set to prepare graduates with the skills to effectively communicate and assess problems associated with the specific challenges surrounding international business decision-making.
As the global business community becomes increasingly integrated, the use of English as the language of business is more ubiquitous than ever and thus is an essential tool for companies to effectively compete in the international business forum. Through the international student programme, students will be given in-depth insights into the economic, political, social, and cultural aspects of national and international business, focusing on areas such as macroeconomics, microeconomics and the impact of today’s global markets on the business decision-making process. Graduates of the international student programme will have the capacity to critically evaluate the relationship between various economic variables by using quantitative methods that reflect the needs of industries and government legislation. The curriculum will therefore encompass studies in the areas of economics for emerging markets and financial markets thereby challenging students to examine critical issues within converging elements of international business. This will be carried out through the provision of a comprehensive and holistic approach within the course modules that explores the synergies between economic theory and practice, management and international business.
Students are to be taught by an adept team of local and international lecturers with longstanding experience in the field of international business economics. Moreover, potential students will also benefit from the small class size — the international student programme will have a lecturer student ratio of 1:40 — which can provide students with the opportunity to directly and actively engage with the course material as well as contribute to class discussions. Moreover, students will be able to participate in workshops and seminars which will equip students with necessary hard skills and soft skills such as data analysis as well as delivering oral and written presentations.
Going forward, the international student programme at Universitas Prasetiya Mulya aims to collaborate with universities abroad in order to attract international students into the programme in addition to knowledge sharing in the form of curriculum development. Furthermore, the international student programme is set to include further degree programmes in the future; this will provide students with greater options to study in English and further cements Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s standing as a leading higher education institution in Indonesia that consistently produces graduates with the competencies and advanced skill-sets to become global business leaders.
