Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s recently launched undergraduate study programme in Tourism Business aims to provide an inclusive curriculum that produces adept graduates able to capitalise on Indonesia’s rapidly emerging tourism industry. The study programme will demonstrate the theoretical as well as practical aspects of tourism and business management so as to advance a more sustainable and inclusive tourism industry in Indonesia.
Throughout their studies, students of this dynamic course will be exposed to the hospitality industry as well as learn the skills to sharpen their entrepreneurial mindset. Students will learn to manage hotel and restaurant operations where they will gain invaluable hands-on experience in tourism and hospitality business management. Graduates can spur the development of tourism infrastructure such as accommodation facilities, food and beverages services as well as the provision of transportation, and in doing so, entice more investment into the country’s outlying areas and capitalise on the country’s tourism potential.
Indonesia’s array of cultures and scenic environments has resulted in the country fast attracting large numbers of tourists. Indonesia’s relatively untapped tourism industry enjoyed increasing growth in the number of foreign tourists, with arrivals reaching close to 10 million visitors. Yet, it lags behind its ASEAN neighbours Malaysia and Thailand (which received some 29 million and 26 million visitors, respectively). Universitas Prasetiya Mulya's graduates of Tourism Business stand to take advantage of this vigorously developing sector through incorporating operational knowledge of the hospitality industry with an entrepreneurial mindset so as to develop Indonesia’s rightful place as a global tourism hub.
