On 20th October 2016, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya hosted the CREATION 2016 competition, which was held at its BSD campus. Now in its second year, Creative Action (CREATION) is a business-based competition organised by the undergraduate Tourism Business study programme in collaboration with the Event study programme of the School of Business and Economics and aims to challenge high school students to create compelling business ideas that can impact Indonesia’s tourism sector.
The competition was divided into two events, namely the Tourism Business Challenge (TORCH) and Starting Great Event (STAGE). The TORCH competition tasked participants to develop business plans — these can be product or service-based — which could stimulate the growth of the tourism industry across the archipelago, whereas the STAGE competition tested the abilities of high school students to manage events such as art shows; this year’s theme focused on Indonesian heritage and its potential to attract international visitors to Indonesia. Participants of both competitions were judged on their presentation and analytical skills as well as innovative ideas such as the use of information technology upon deciding the winners who were eligible for prizes worth a total of 15,000,000 IDR.
Through this most recent event, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya hoped to encourage students to develop Indonesia’s tourism industry into an integral sector of the country’s economy. With the Indonesian government aiming to increase the number of international visitors, the development of an attractive business climate will be important in boosting the tourism industry.
