On 9th February 2017, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya held a seminar on Indonesia's tourism industry in collaboration with the university’s School of Business and Economics. The event, which was held at Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s Cilandak campus, highlighted the growing need to produce skilled graduates to support the robust growth of the country's promising tourism industry; the seminar thus was led by the university’s Hospitality Business undergraduate program team. The “Tourism Higher Education in Facing Global Business Challenges” seminar was attended by Rector of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya Prof. Dr. Djisman S. Simandjuntak, Prof. Agus W. Soehadi, Ph.D as Dean of School of Business and Economics, Mr Budi Tirtawisata as CEO of Panorama Group, Prof. Mari Elka Pangestu, Ph.D as Indonesia’s former Tourism and Creative Economy Minister as well as Prof. Dr. I Gede Pitana, M.Sc as Deputy Head of Marketing Development at Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, among many others.
As an answer to anticipate the growth of the national tourism industry – which is expected to contribute to 9.2% to the total GDP growth – Universitas Prasetiya Mulya has long undertaken the necessary measures by recently introducing its Hospital Business study programme. In keeping with this measure, the seminar included various sessions on future challenges for tourism education, the rising trend of the sharing economy, the influence of the budding tourism and hospitality industry on education, and industry expectations. Through its far-reaching network of business partners in the hospitality and tourism industry, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya is therefore well-prepared to design innovative and industry-related curricula. As such, the curricula for the study programme will focus on three core elements of Learning Pathways, Practical and Management Experience, and Entrepreneurial Learning; this initiative is hoped to hone in on theoretical and practical skills.
Through its far-reaching network of business partners in the hospitality and tourism industry, Universitas Prasetiya is well-prepared to cater to the growing call for high-potential local talents. As Universitas Prasetiya Mulya forges ahead in realising the vision of its Hospitality Business undergraduate programme, the university has therefore demonstrated its readiness to produce the next generation of tourism and hospitality leaders who are well-equipped to push for further growth.
