Leading higher education institution, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, recently held its first TechFest 2016 competition at its BSD campus on 3rd October 2016. The five-day event was organised by the university’s School of Applied STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and sought to invite high school students from Jakarta and Bandung to participate in a variety of science and technology based activities. This year’s theme of ‘Engineering Powers Your Future’ also involved seminars and workshops which provided event participants the opportunity to gain insights on the current international business climate.
The TechFest 2016 event made available 5 competitions on the topics of robotics, business mathematics, energy engineering, food technology and software engineering; winning teams were eligible to prizes worth a total of 85,000,000 IDR. During the event, participants faced numerous challenges which encouraged the utilisation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to design and present solutions to a range of issues such as food sustainability; jurors took into account factors such as critical thinking and analysis as well as innovative ideas upon deciding on the winners.
This most recent event organised by Universitas Prasetiya Mulya has taken upon its role to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed in an increasing technology-driven economy. In inviting highly-competent students to TechFest, the university hopes to encourage greater participation in STEM education which will be important for the advancement of the country’s socio-economic development.
