On 12th September 2017, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya through its Business Mathematics undergraduate programme signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Asuransi MSIG Indonesia at a ceremony held at its BSD campus. This latest partnership will see Asuransi MSIG Indonesia collaborate on joint research initiatives surrounding actuarial science, risk management, and insurance. Furthermore, the cooperation is set to encompass guest lectures, seminars, as well as internship programmes for students of the School of Applied Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) — the company will also develop an innovation studio for Business Mathematics students.
The MoU was signed by Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s Vice Rector I of Academics Prof Yudi Samyudia Ph.D, and PT Asuransi MSIG Indonesia’s Director Mr Bambang S. Soekarno. Also present at the event were Prof Dr Janson Naiborhu as Dean of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s School of Applied STEM, Mr Franky Supriyadi Ph.D as Vice Dean of the School of Applied STEM, Mr Maydison Ginting Ph,D as Head of Business Mathematics undergraduate degree programme, in addition to faculty members of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya. Prof Samyudia emphasised the need to produce highly-skilled actuaries in Indonesia to develop new statistical and financial models to inform important financial decisions; actuaries have a broad understanding of the financial markets and can, therefore, be utilised in various industries, including pension plans, risk management, insurance companies, and government regulatory bodies, among many others. .
Universitas Prasetiya Mulya is thus ready to prepare graduates in this regard — the university is already in cooperation with the University of Waterloo to provide scholarships in the field of actuarial science — and meet the diverse challenges within Indonesia’s maturing financial sector.
