On 17th April 2017, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya forged a new partnership with a leading local organisation, Medco Foundation, in aim to further strengthen the use of renewable energy in Indonesia. Medco Foundation started in 2003 and strives toward offering contributions through the field of education in order to improve upon the livelihoods of Indonesian societies. The newly-established cooperation was symbolised through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signing event that was carried out at Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s BSD Campus by Rector of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, Prof. Dr. Djisman S. Simandjuntak and Chairman of Medco Foundation, Mr Roni Pramaditia; the partnership is intended for Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s School of Applied STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics).
Under the MOU, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya and its partner will synergise in three main areas over the next five years: knowledge development on renewable energy through the use of algae and wood pellets, research on integrated farming systems, and education on entrepreneurship. This latest measure demonstrates the university’s firm action in implementing a dual collaborative system of learning within its education system – applicable for all study programmes. During the event, Prof. Dr. Djisman Simandjuntak explained the importance for Indonesian higher education institutions to contribute to the development of food technology and renewable energy for Indonesia’s future. The aim for Universitas Prasetiya Mulya and Medco Foundation is to utilise modern technology and theoretical knowledge as a means of offering solutions that can benefit Indonesia’s renewable energy sector as well as its society. As such, both parties are expected to undertake numerous research and development initiatives in hopes that their engagement will motivate the Indonesian government to also partake in efforts to push for sustainable solutions on renewable energy. Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s most recent MOU signing with Medco Foundation stands as testament to the university’s successful ability to carry out industry-related curricula that have seen it become renowned for its multi-skilled graduates.
