On 19th May 2017, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya hosted the Indonesia Finance and Banking Forum event that strived to hone in on students' analytical thinking ability as well as serving as an opportunity to network. The event was part of the 4th annual Indonesia Investment Banking Competition held by Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s Finance and Banking undergraduate programme; this year, the university focused on the topic of financial technology (FinTech). Esteemed guests at the event included Mr Junanto Herdiawan as Bank Indonesia’s Head of FinTech Office, Mr Peterjan van Nieuwenhuizen as BTPN’s Head of Digital Banking, Mr Abraham Viktor as CEO of Taralite; Mr Jonathan Barki as Vice President of GO-PAY; and Mr Taufan Garuda Putra as CEO of Amartha Micro FinTech among many others.
As part of the event programme, participants gained the opportunity to partake in a forum alongside industry professionals and regulators who provided their insights on the current state of FinTech in Indonesia. In understanding the future growth of FinTech, guest speakers highlighted how the utilisation of FinTech can assist the Indonesian government’s financial inclusion initiative. The event additionally showcased how local banks and companies have yet to take full advantage of FinTech given the early introduction of the technology on a nationwide scale. As industry players, including banks, are looking to strengthen the role of FinTech in the coming years, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya is striving to provide enrolled students with the tools and resources so as to sharpen their knowledge and understanding of FinTech even further. In hosting the Indonesia Finance and Banking Forum, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya thus demonstrated its capacity to actively provide solutions on current events impacting Indonesia through engagements with industry experts as well as the country’s upcoming generation of leaders.
