The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UNSRI harbours a variety of disciplines and research strengths as part of UNSRI’s efforts to develop adept graduates in the field of mathematics, marine science, pharmacy and the natural sciences. The faculty is offered at the undergraduate, master’s as well as doctorate level, encompassing multi-disciplinary curricula and producing graduates with the ability to specialise in a variety of subjects. As such, an important component for the success of Indonesia’s economy is dependent on a sufficient pool of young talents in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through UNSRI’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, graduates are equipped with the analytical and logical skills that enable them to collaborate within interdisciplinary teams on key research topics in various industries and societies.
The faculty currently offers majors in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as Marine Science. Students learn how to abstract problems to their essence, argue logically and to utilise analytical skills to solve problems facing the country’s various social groups. In an age of increased competition and the transition to knowledge-based economies, science and mathematics education is central to Indonesia’s developing economy through domestic-based innovation and research. This will enable the country to become self-sustainable in integral sectors of its economy such as manufacturing. With the faculty’s comprehensive student-centred approach, graduates are primed in critical inquiry, transparency, objectivity and the values of good governance.
Scientific education is essential to the modernisation and development of Indonesia and can be used as important tools to solve issues in multiple industries such as healthcare, food and agricultural sustainability, energy resources as well as the environment. The holistic teaching approach at UNSRI’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will empower graduates to shape scientific and technological developments as well as policy-making in order to address these challenges. In doing so, graduates are equipped to work in the country’s advancing economy and improve the quality of life for Indonesia’s population.
