On 10th October 2017, BNI Syariah in cooperation with Hajj People co-hosted the 2017 Islamic Tourism Expo at The Kasablanka Hall in Jakarta. The two-day expo attracted more than 100 local and international companies from the Middle East, and the ASEAN seeking to tap into Indonesia’s Islamic tourism sector. These included Hajj and Umrah tour operators, airline companies, and hotel chains among many others who presented their diverse products and services in addition to offering special discounts to visitors. The event also featured seminars on Shariah Banking, Hajj Financial Management, and Muslim Tourism Development. Present at the event representing BNI Syariah was President Director Mr Abdullah Firman Wibowo and Ms Dhias Widhiyati as BNI Syariah’s Director of Business.
At the expo, BNI Syariah took the opportunity to highlight its shariah-compliant banking services to participants along with its new Android app, Hasanah Personal, which provides customers with competitive Hajj and Umrah packages as well as other international tourist destinations from its partners of travel agents and tour operators. Furthermore, in expanding the amenities available to pilgrims, the bank showcased its Hajj and Umrah card — the first debit card in Indonesia that is synergised with the pilgrimage — which offers customers convenience for cash withdrawals and financial transactions when abroad. Partnering with MasterCard and Al-Rajhi bank, this innovative product provides the comfort of modern shariah banking services while catering to the need of Indonesia’s sophisticated consumer habits.
As a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, coupled with an increasingly affluent middle-class, Indonesia is well positioned to further develop its Halal tourism sector. In participating at the Islamic Tourism Expo 2017, BNI Syariah demonstrates its efforts to position Indonesia as one of the most popular Muslim tourist destination worldwide that can also cater to non-Muslims interested in unique Islamic heritage and the advantages of shariah-compliant hospitality services. This untapped potential presents an appetising opportunity for this industry to significantly contribute to the growth of other complementary sectors and the country’s economy.
