On 24th March 2017, BNI Syariah stated its full support towards the “AKSI Pangan” programme – started by Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK) – which is an initiative that seeks to accelerate financial inclusion for the food and agriculture sector as a means of strengthening local and regional economies. The launch of the “AKSI Pangan” programme took place in West Sumatra province and was attended by numerous prominent individuals including Mr Junaidi Hisom as BNI Syariah’s Director of Operations, Mr Irwan Prayitno as Governor of West Sumatra, Mr Mahyeldi Ansharullah as Mayor of Padang in addition to representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Trade, and a wide-range of industry players in finance and banking. During the event, BNI Syariah also partook in in-depth discussions with the West Sumatra government in an effort to accelerate the province’s community development measures through tourism.
As part of the newly-forged cooperation, BNI Syariah is set to realise its financial inclusion strategy through value chain financing for the food and agriculture sector for both the downstream and upstream segments. In implementing this measure, BNI Syariah hopes that the company is able to serve as a solution for financing that can propel the growth of specific sectors such as forestry, gardening, fishery, and agriculture in the near future – an aspect that was reiterated by Mr Junaidi Hisom during his opening remark. Furthermore, BNI Syariah additionally extended its support in bolstering West Sumatra’s tourism industry given that the province was selected as the ‘Best Halal Destination in the World’ in 2016 at the World Halal Tourism Award 2016 event; the potential for halal tourism in Indonesia is valued at 223 trillion IDR and believed to have the capacity of inviting 15 million visitors annually. Through this shared interest, BNI Syariah will make available special promotions for industry players engaged in West Sumatra’s halal tourism industry going forward; businesses that are of the company’s interests range from hotels, restaurants, and tour and travel agencies. By participating in the “AKSI Pangan” programme as well as closely cooperating with the West Sumatra government, BNI Syariah is looking forward to contributing concrete changes in providing rapid financial inclusion for every region throughout Indonesia.
