On 6th December 2017, BNI Syariah attained three accolades at the 2017 Shariah Republika Awards (ASR) which was organised by Republika Newspaper at the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta. The awards aim to recognise the active contributions of individuals and institutions to Indonesia’s shariah banking sector. Attending the event were prominent government and industry figures such as Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs Mr Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Governor of Bank Indonesia Mr Agus Martowardojo, Mr Abdullah Firman Wibowo as President Director of BNI Syariah, in addition to top management members of local shariah banks.
Held for the first time, the ASR awards were presented to companies from a variety of sectors that included banking, insurance, and financial technology (fintech). Winners were assessed over a number of criteria such as their policies and innovative strategies for the development of the sector and the use of the latest information technology in their business operations. BNI Syariah was awarded Best Shariah Bank with assets of 10-30 trillion IDR, Best Financial Performance, as well as the Most Innovative Shariah Bank with assets above 20 trillion IDR.
BNI Syariah’s recent achievements at the ASR awards is demonstrative of the bank’s advancing growth within Indonesia’s shariah banking sector. This is further supported by its current positive financial performance in 2017 — net profits increased from 215 billion IDR to 246 billion IDR while assets grew from 26.8 trillion IDR to 32.0 trillion IDR from the previous year.
