On 2nd November 2017, BNI Syariah was presented with two accolades at the 2017 Indonesia Good Corporate Governance Awards event which was organised by Economic Review magazine and International Business School at the Crown Plaza hotel in Jakarta. Now into its third year, the awards are aimed at showcasing appreciation for institutions who implement Good Corporate Governance (GCG) practices throughout their business operations. Over 100 private, public, and state-owned companies from various industries in Indonesia were nominated with BNI Syariah winning in the Non-listed Shariah Banking Companies category and the Top 10 Best GCG for Corporate Companies in Indonesia category. Accepting the award on behalf of the bank was Corporate Secretary of BNI Syariah Mr Adjat Djatnika.
In attaining these awards, BNI Syariah was assessed on its overall transparency; information related to the bank is regularly updated on its website. Furthermore, the bank was judged on its GCG strategies that supported a corporate culture that positively impacted its business, the wider society and other stakeholders. One aspect of this strategy is BNI Syariah’s whistleblowing policy that applies to all branches of the bank and establishes effective and clear communication between employees at every level.
As Islamic banking and financial services gain greater prominence in Indonesia, shariah banks are held to increasingly higher standards by investors and customers than ever before. Through winning these awards, BNI Syariah demonstrated its standing towards the implementation of transparent GCG principles in contributing to the efficiency and growth of its business. Such values are a core foundation of the bank’s Hasanah lifestyle banking concept.
