On 24th February 2017, BNI Syariah along with its parent company Bank BNI (Persero) signed an agreement with state-owned construction company PT Jasa Marga for the development of a new toll route that will connect the cities of Manado and Bitung, in North Sulawesi province. This latest partnership will see BNI Syariah provide financial assistance for land acquisition for the planned 40km highway; this new alternative route is expected to shorten the travelling time between Manado and Bitung.
Present at the event were Ms Dhias Widhiyati as Senior Executive Vice President of Commercial and Medium Enterprises at BNI Syariah, Mr Bimo Cahyadi as Head of Small and Medium Enterprises Division at BNI Syariah; Mr Asmoro Hadi as Head of State Owned Enterprises and Institutions Division at Bank BNI (Persero); Head of Syndications Unit Ms Betty Alwi; and Mr Benny Yoslim as Deputy Head of Head of State Owned Enterprises and Institutions Division at Bank BNI (Persero). The consortium of banks will provide up to 860 billion IDR in financing to PT Jasa Marga with BNI Syariah contributing up to 150 billion IDR. Scheduled to be completed in 2019, the new toll road is part of the Indonesian government’s renewed focus on infrastructure development to support the country’s continued economic growth — Indonesia’s infrastructure projects have previously failed to take off on a significant scale due to uncertainties surrounding land acquisition.
BNI Syariah’s support of Indonesia’s infrastructure development demonstrates new growth opportunities for the bank. Given the government’s pre-tendering of projects, the collaboration of state-owned enterprises coupled with partnerships from the private sector will generate adequate funding to meet Indonesia’s infrastructure needs. As such, BNI Syariah stands at the forefront for the growing potential of Islamic-compliant banks extending their financing to the corporate segment.
