Bintang Toedjoe is a niche company offering healthcare products that can be best described as low-priced, single-purchase goods for the lower to middle market. From 1946 when this company was founded through to 1985 when Kalbe Farma acquired us, all of our products have come in single-serve packaging or sachets. One of our most popular products is a medicine for treating headaches containing paracetamol and aspirin. When energy drinks started to gain a market in Indonesia, we also sought to develop our own product under the same concept. This company has a strategy in place until 2020 which is to develop our products to be even more simple and convenient to prepare and consume.
Our success has extended to the international markets having already exported to countries such as Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Nigeria. The focus in this regard has been on emerging markets rather than advanced economies in Europe or North America because our products are more suited for consumers in those countries. Going forward, we are aiming to expand our overseas market further; especially in the Southeast Asian region to countries such as Vietnam, as well as to South Africa in the African continent.
Overall, Bintang Toedjoe is already a market leader in Indonesia for upper-respiratory products through our Komix brand, and aspires to be the same for energy drinks. We have also expanded upon our portfolio to include natural-based formulas for common illnesses of the digestive system and other general conditions through products such as Bintang Toedjoe Masuk Angin, Bintang Toedjoe Panas Dalam as well as Komis Lo Han Kuo. For this purpose, we are exploring collaborations with a number of universities in developing our capacity to produce the necessary raw materials. One such cooperation in the works is with a university from South Korea related to the production of ginseng as one of the active ingredients in our highly successful Extra Joss product.
