From 6th-17th November 2017, ENVIPLAST® participated in the 23rd Conference of Parties on climate change in Bonn, Germany. Organised by the UN Climate Secretariat, the conference saw countries take important steps to implement the Paris Climate Change Agreement as well as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. An important topic of discussion in the event was regarding the impact of global plastic waste on the environment and the actions needed to address this problem. ENVIPLAST® took this opportunity to present its unique biodegradable plastic products and thus showcase itself as a sustainable alternative to the use of conventional plastic bags.
Present at the event was Ms Inge Setyawati as Business Director at ENVIPLAST® and Mr Luhut Pandjaitan as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia who presented a keynote speech themed, ‘Combatting Marine Plastic Debris’. The Minister reiterated how microplastic waste has become a major threat to Indonesia’s biodiversity and that the country aims to reduce the amount of plastic debris in its seas by 70% by 2025. In tackling such issues, ENVIPLAST® also highlighted the various applications through which its bio-based products can be utilised for — these include as automotive dashboard components, electronic wrapping material, and garbage bags among many others — as well as its ability to not form dangerous microplastics.
In participating in the UN conference on climate change, ENVIPLAST® demonstrated its potential as an important tool for better waste management initiatives. With increasing recognition of the negative environmental impact surrounding microplastics, the company will prove advantageous for those seeking plastic bags that have an improved ecological profile whilst still maintaining the functional performance of conventional PE bags.
