“ The baby care product sector in Indonesia is a very promising business. The Indonesian society’s desire to provide more for their children will continue to drive the growth prospect of our industry. ”
We first established our company in an aim to meet the demands of breastfeeding mothers because at the time, we realised the growing number of young Indonesian parents. After we studied the market and provided thermal breastmilk storage bags to the market which was largely dominated by overseas brands, we also realised the lack of versatility in these thermal bags. Taking into consideration the rate of mobility amongst Indonesia’s new parents, we decided to create a multi-versatile bag that can accommodate to the daily needs of working mothers. We have since diversified our product line which comprises of approximately 50 – 70 types of bags. This will continue to increase given our company’s commitment to producing 10 new bag models annually.
Gabag Indonesia’s unique selling point is our chic and stylish thermal bags that are in keeping with today’s modern working moms in Indonesia. As such, our bags come in a variety of colours and designs while maintaining its versatile function. This measure has helped Gabag Indonesia to reach export markets such as Australia and Malaysia. Moving forward, we would like to continue expanding our product portfolio while specially focusing on developing lifestyle bags. Based on our customers’ reviews, we discovered that our bags are also used as lunch bags particularly amongst metropolitan mothers hence Gabag Indonesia will move towards accommodating to this market segment.
I believe that the baby care product sector in Indonesia is a very promising business. The Indonesian society’s desire to provide more for their children will continue to drive the growth prospect of our industry. Whilst there are immense opportunities in baby care products, creativity is needed so as to cater to the dynamic demands of our consumers.
Furthermore, we believe that the government can better support our industry by raising awareness on the importance of health which begins from the day a child is conceived. Currently, there are several communities in Indonesia that work towards raising public awareness on breastmilk and healthy diets for breastfeeding moms which gives us confidence in the future of our industry. Gabag Indonesia has undertaken measures to support this market segment by hosting seminars, exhibitions as we had done with Milna, and also by increasing our social media presence.
Another issue which the government can look towards improving is maintaining the steady supply of raw materials that we use to manufacture our product which are mostly imported goods. Human capital is also a problem for our company and based on my experience, I believe that the country’s human resources lack competitiveness. Gabag Indonesia encourages open communication within our company so as to better understand the wants and needs of our employees.
Our bags will remain a core pillar of Gabag Indonesia’s industrial focus, and for 2017, we will increase the production of our lunch bags because we are looking to raise greater awareness on the importance of healthy eating for Indonesian children. As a result, we will begin manufacturing child-friendly lunch bags that are attractively designed and maintains the same level of versatility for the user.
Outside of our bag product portfolio, we have also produced breastmilk bags since 2015. Certainly I have a personal goal of manufacturing a wider array of baby care products in the future and as such, I have developed a corporate plan to realise this mission.
We have registered patent rights in the Philippines, China, and Brunei as a measure to widen our international market reach. Moreover, our Malaysian and Singaporean customers know about Gabag Indonesia from our online presence. To further this trend, we emphasise the role of social media in raising our brand awareness. Through the AEC’s open market policy, Gabag Indonesia will look to increase our regional presence. We remain optimistic that ASEAN countries will be able to accept our products.
We are interested in partnering with international investors for technology transfer and export purposes. Based on our previous experience, we often face difficulties in reaching out to overseas buyers hence we are looking to improve upon this. Through technology transfer, we hope to better understand the market demands of various countries in the world. Because we are dedicated to product development, we welcome any enquiries that will enable us to diversify our current bag models.
In addition, it is also important for us to work with partners that are passionate for baby care products and the growth of our industry. For me, this industry carries a lot more than the business aspect because there is an emotional attachment that is associated with our customer base which are working mothers. Prospective partners should remember that patience and innovation are important factors in spearheading this industry.
We believe that small and medium enterprises in Indonesia have the capacity to succeed in the industry. We also encourage investors to work alongside local companies so as to support the development of Gabag Indonesia as well other similar companies of our scale.
