Leading modern retailer, Sarinah, hosted an event on Friday, 22nd July 2016 with the theme ‘Women Empowerment Gathering’ celebrating the contribution of Indonesian women in business and society. The event was in partnership with renowned local fashion brands Essetera, Batik Paring, and Rumah Betawi. Sarinah also hosted a fashion show featuring on-trend apparel from its partners in addition to a talk show session with prominent Indonesian female figureheads. Attendees at the event included President Director of Sarinah Ms Ira Puspadewi, renowned businesswoman Ms Dewi Motik Pramono, esteemed writer Ms Asma Nadia and Ms Sylvia Djarjis as a representative from the Komunitas Lansia Indonesia Bahagia Bugar Sehat Aktif organisation.
In showcasing Sarinah’s recently-established undertaking in Islamic fashion, the retailer provided a hijab tutorial programme to cater to Indonesia’s modern, fashion-savvy Muslim women. Guests received a tour of the department store as a means to illustrate locally-produced handicrafts as well as sought-after products manufactured by a number of Sarinah’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) partners; currently, Sarinah cooperates with approximately 400 SMEs. As part of the company’s commitment to supporting SMEs, Sarinah equips its human resources with the necessarily skills to assist its SME partners in developing strategies to adapt to Indonesia’s dynamic business climate.
Through this event, Sarinah hopes to highlight the growing impact of women in today’s businesses in addition to recognising their influential role on Indonesian society; out of 52 million SMEs throughout the archipelago, 60 percent is managed or owned by women. Sarinah’s Women Empowerment Gathering highlights the significant contribution made by Indonesia’s female workforce and the SME sector in driving Indonesia’s economic growth.
