On 19th December 2016, longstanding modern retailer Sarinah signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with renowned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) in Jakarta. The MOU aims to forge closer ties between both state-owned companies; Sarinah will encourage the use of KAI’s Railpay Card amongst its consumers. Esteemed attendees include President Director of Sarinah, Ms Handriani Tjatur Setiowati, President Director of KAI, Mr Edi Sukmoro as well as Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Ms Rini Soemarno.
As part of the partnership, Sarinah is set to create a strategy in which the company will offer consumers the option of using KAI’s Railpay Card during their transactions at Sarinah’s department stores. In doing so, Sarinah strives to support the use of e-payment services in Indonesia. Bank partners of KAI’s Railpay Card include Bank BNI, Bank Mandiri, and Bank BRI; this measure further illustrates Sarinah’s ability to anticipate the new trend for cashless payments.
Through its most recent cooperation, Sarinah is expected to raise greater public awareness on its wide-ranging financial transaction services made available to local and international consumers. Moving forward, Sarinah is well-prepared to initiate further partnerships with additional state-owned enterprises so as to push for the development of Indonesia’s retail industry.
