Tarumanagara University’s Faculty of Medicine offers a bachelor degree program that serves as the ideal base from which to later pursue graduate level studies. The program emphasizes the importance of developing a student’s core competencies in general medical studies through a highly regarded curriculum built around the concept of problem-based learning. This teaching method requires that students react and adapt to patient ailments and symptoms presented in case studies and real life scenarios, in an attempt to diagnose and treat the condition. Students also benefit from Tarumanagara University’s cooperation with medical centres in and around Jakarta to gain a first-hand look into the health services sector in Indonesia. Among the university’s partners are RS Sumber Waras, RS Husada, the Dharmawangsa Sanatorium as well as the UNTAR-affiliated RS Royal Taruma located next door to Campus I.

The Faculty of Medicine in preparing its students for careers involving complex technology and high levels of precision encourages the use of on-campus facilities including the renowned Tarumanagara Human Cell Technology Laboratory, a Chemical & Biochemical Laboratory, a Biology, Microbiology & Clinical Pathology Laboratory, and a Practical Skills Lab. In 2013, UNTAR supplemented its already comprehensive resources for students to develop practical knowhow through the addition of a CBT Centre and OSCE Centre.

Rising demand for healthcare services in Indonesia triggered by the implementation of a universal healthcare program stands to place even more importance on the availability of high quality human resources for the medical sector.
