Masters of Urban Panning

Tarumanagara University has a longstanding reputation as a pioneer in Indonesia’s property and infrastructure sector dating back to its establishment of a vocational course in real estate in 1991. This course later evolved into a bona fide bachelors degree program, which in turn sowed the seeds for the launch of a Masters of Urban Planning degree in 2005.

The Masters of Urban Planning program at Tarumanagara University was founded in response to the rapid development of Indonesia’s urban centres and the influx of people moving from rural villages into cities that has coincided with sustained economic growth. Reports from 2010 suggest that Indonesia’s urban population rose from 30% to 44% over the course of only two decades, a trend likely to accelerate unless measures are taken to curb urban migration. With the country’s major commercial centres already overcapacity and on the cusp of gridlock, tangible solutions are needed to effectively manage infrastructural development. UNTAR actively addresses the need for greater expertise in this field via the creation of graduates well versed in urban planning within a context specific to Indonesia.

As a means of expediting the development of skilled graduates, Tarumanagara University partners with Delft University for the purpose of training on topics such as urbanism, urban design, landscape architecture and spatial planning. UNTAR has also collaborated with the University of Melbourne to make available a Masters in Public Infrastructure from the Australian institution for Indonesian government officials and policy makers.
