Andalas University in cooperation with USAID’s Higher Education Leadership and Management (USAID-HELM) project and Arizona State University (ASU) held another Leadership Education for Engineering Accreditation Program (LEEAP) workshop from 31st August to 4th September 2015, having previously held a similar event in June. In addition to cementing Andalas’ standing as USAID’s main partner in Indonesia for this initiative, the LEEAP training session was also attended by several other higher education institutions, namely Politeknik Negeri Padang and Universitas Negeri Padang from West Sumatra, as well as Universitas Hasanuddin from South Sulawesi.

Prof. Dr. Werry Darta Taifur as Rector of Andalas University in his statement during the event said that the achievement of being chosen as the main partner for the USAID-HELM project is indicative of his institution’s readiness and commitment to prepare for the global stage. He hopes that workshops of this nature will continue to be held so as to benefit Andalas University’s other faculties. “By supporting our study programs and faculties in their initiatives to successfully obtain international accreditation, Andalas University will advance faster towards accomplishing its objective of becoming a world-class university,” he closed.

In this second workshop, the ASU team of advisors included Mr Jeff Goss, Dr. Kathy Wigal, Dr. Scott Danielson, Mr John Rome and Ms Gila Aispuro. The LEEAP program – an initiative aimed at enhancing the quality and competitiveness of Indonesia’s higher-learning institutions – focuses primarily on study programs in natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. Andalas University’s Faculty of Engineering in this regard has undertaken extensive efforts with the goal of obtaining regional and international accreditations such as ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) and Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
