Bahana | Bahana Artha Ventura Committed to Supporting SMEs in Bali
04.06.2015

PT Bahana Artha Ventura (BAV), a subsidiary of PT Bahana Pembinaan Usaha Indonesia (Persero) that provides funding for small-scale businesses, recognizes that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are a vital component supporting regional economic growth in Bali. The importance of SMEs and the immense potential for their further development motivated BAV to pledge its continued support for SMEs in the province. President Director of BAV,  Mr Andi Buchari, reasserted this commitment on 4th June 2015 during a formal visit to one of BAV’s SME partners in the Sukawati area; Bali’s main market for souvenirs and crafts.

During the activity which is part of BAV’s annual agenda, Mr Buchari expressed his company’s belief that SMEs in Bali have an advantage in surviving economic downturns given the nature of the creative industry - the most common sector Balinese SMEs are involved in - and having raw materials supplied from within the region. This optimism was also shared by Mr Made Gunawirawan, the President Director of PT Sarana Bali Ventura (SBV); the local subsidiary of BAV. Mr Gunawirawan cited his company’s performance of having recorded 22.39% higher profit and a 9.23% increase in total assets as confirmation of the significance of Bali’s SME development.

SBV was established in 1994 and as of 2014 has provided capital support to more than 1,507 local SMEs in Bali for a total amount of 339 billion IDR. This, however, is a tiny fraction from an estimated 210,000 SMEs that contribute to the province’s economy. Hence, the company is setting a target of 15.66 billion IDR to be disbursed in 2015 to incorporate other prospective SMEs that have difficulty acquiring capital; being deemed as non-bankable in the broader financial sector.

BAV’s role in assisting SMEs nationwide through operations in 26 provinces also serves to support the Indonesian government’s effort in stimulating higher economic growth, as well as the Financial Services Authority’s plan to revitalize the venture capital sector. Bali’s economy itself saw 6.20% growth in Q1 2015, which is significantly higher than the national realization of 4.70%.
