ASDP Indonesia Ferry | ASDP Indonesia Ferry to Buy Seven Vessels in 2014
04.08.2014

On 4th August 2014, ASDP Indonesia Ferry announced to the local media its plans to buy seven ferries over the course of 2014. With the addition of these ferries, bought used from countries such as Japan, ASDP Indonesia Ferry will lay claim to a fleet of 137 ships serving 159 routes across the archipelago. The newly purchased ferries will primarily be used in replacing old ships as well as to serve the state owned enterprise’s new routes as part of its expansion strategy.

ASDP Indonesia Ferry expects to spend 1 trillion IDR (approximately $85 million USD) on the latest additions to its fleet, and will receive the first three ferries from Japan in September 2014. As reported in local media outlet Merdeka.com, the company made the decision to obtain used ships as opposed to new ones due to the need to quickly meet demand for their sea transport services. New vessels, as explained by President Director Mr Danang Baskoro during the announcement, take up to 24 months to be constructed and delivered.
