Sewu Segar Nusantara | Sewu Segar Nusantara Furthers Brand Positioning Through Major Athletic Events

To further its positioning as a leading proponent of healthy lifestyles, Sewu Segar Nusantara through its brand Sunpride® has been active in supporting major athletic events in the Greater Jakarta area. The company has since the beginning of 2014 supported a host of races organised by Indonesia’s foremost names in the banking, media, and food & beverage industries, including but not limited to:

  • The Jakarta Race Series 2014, a 5K road race organised by the Jakarta Free Spirit Running Club in collaboration with educational institutions based in the capital city. Held on 26th January and then again in February, April and May; this event has long been considered a beacon in the running community following its inaugural race over ten years ago. In supporting this athletic event, Sunpride® made available its Cavendish bananas to all participants.
  • MNC Run with Heart, a 5k road race held on 9th March 2014 at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex in Senayan. Organised by media conglomerate MNC this event was supported by Sunpride® and a collection of partners closely associated with health and well-being in Indonesia such as Tokio Marine Life Insurance, Hemaviton and League. In its capacity as an official supporter of the MNC Run, Sewu Segar Nusantara through Sunpride® made available a total of 6,000 bananas for runners as well as a choice selection of fruits from its range of products. The event was thus used as an opportunity for SSN to promote products not as widely associated with the Sunpride® brand as bananas, and provide consumers with a greater understanding of the benefits of fruits through direct interactions and the distribution of leaflets.
  • Mandiri Run Jakarta, sponsored by state owned financial institution Bank Mandiri and held on 4th May 2014. As an official partner of this event, Sunpride provided a total of 5,000 Cavendish bananas to participants at designated booths positioned immediately after the finish line.
  • Pocari Run Jakarta 2014, a road race held on 11th May 2014 and organised by PT. Amerta Indah Otsuka – manufacturer of popular beverage Pocari Sweat. In addition to its tried and tested method of raising consumer awareness via the provision of fruit products at the event, Sewu Segar Nusantara in its supporting role also provided Sunpride® products to school children taking part in the School Run Clinic. This program was a complementary initiative to the road race, established to give talented young athletes the opportunity to receive coaching and guidance on safe running.

Sewu Segar Nusantara’s participation at major sporting events is in keeping with its goal of encouraging a healthy and fun lifestyle. In addition to supporting road races, the company recently kick started a new campaign in support of movies that promote health and wellbeing, such as Mari Lari – a film centred on the fast growing running culture in Indonesia. Among the strategies to market the movie and in turn positively impact the public’s perception of an active lifestyle is the launch of a special edition Cavendish banana labelled with the movie’s design and logo. It is expected that this type of program will also cement Sewu Segar Nusantara’s superior brand and top of mind awareness among local consumers.
