Accountancy is a central pillar of any business, not only for financial reporting to shareholders, investors and the public but also to formulate effective financial and business strategy. It is a profession that requires those practicing to work independently and uphold professional ethics as well as the values of the company in every decision that they make. Universitas Prasetiya Mulya recognises that as Indonesia’s business climate matures, the accountancy profession requires technically skilled human resources who fully understand business processes and are therefore able to provide sustainable solutions. It is with these needs in mind that the S1 Accountancy was introduced and specifically designed.
Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s undergraduate accountancy course covers practical knowledge and application through collaboration with students’ peers on other programmes on business plans. Accountancy students are therefore charged with creating the accountancy and financial reporting architecture for a given business process and therefore apply their technical knowledge in an innovative manner by producing financial statements and other tasks. In order to achieve the said goals, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s faculty – consisting of lecturers, industry professionals, external partners – hones in on skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership in addition to business and financial instincts.
As with all undergraduate courses, accountancy students undertake a community development project in the 5th semester of their studies. During this project, the students stay in remote communities and develop small businesses that utilise the readily available natural resources providing a platform to develop entrepreneurial skills which complement their base in accountancy. This experience is then built upon further through compulsory internships in any corporate organisation or public accounting firm whereby students have the opportunity to experience a professional work environment before graduation.
