On 26th February 2017, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya hosted the Saung Rahayat 2017 event as part of a community development project that took place at Alun-Alun Wanayasa in Purwakarta, West Java. The community development-based project started in 2014 as a means of involving enrolled students in driving the economic development and livelihoods of local communities. Among the 2,474 participants at the event included Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s Prof. Agus W. Soehadi, Ph.D as Dean of School of Business and Economics and Prof. Djoko Wintoro, Ph.D as Vice Rector II for Operations, Finance, Accounting, and Human Resources Management as well as Chairman of APINDO, Ms Nina Tursinah; Chairman of Prasetiya Mulya Foundation, Mr Prasasto Sudyatmiko; and Mr Dedi Kusmayadi as Regent of the Wanayasa Regency.
The Saung Rahayat 2017 event served as the finale of the 44-day community development initiative that included wide-ranging activities such as creating business opportunities for Wanayasa community members, monitoring and evaluating business operations, and stayed with various households of the Wanayasa Regency. To further realise the immense potential of the regency, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya additionally partnered with 41 small and medium enterprise (SME) partners from six villages in Sukadami, Legokhuni, Wanasari, Wanayasa, Sumurungul, and Babakan. Moreover, each village focused on developing products based on key strengths of their area such as on agribusiness and camping facilities among others. The university’s partners also partook in an SME Bazaar during the Saung Rahayat 2017 event thus enabling vendors to showcase and retail their locally-manufactured products to a large crowd.
By working closely with communities across Indonesia as well as upholding the importance of technology transfer to improve upon the welfare of local societies, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya has proven its commitment in pushing for equal opportunities in all aspects of national development. This adeptness serves as testament to Universitas Prasetiya Mulya’s ability to equip its students and staff members with the capacity to provide concrete solutions offering a significant impact to society.
