Founded in 1960, Sriwijaya University (UNSRI) is a prominent higher education institute located in Palembang, South Sumatra. As one of Indonesia’s oldest state universities, UNSRI’s forte lies in its research capabilities in science, technology and the arts; producing graduates with high levels of technical and disciplinary skills enabling them to work across a multitude of disciplines. Sriwijaya University offers an extensive collection of study programmes at the undergraduate, master’s and doctorate level. The university’s research focus in the areas of ecology, agriculture and environmental sustainability have resulted in concrete end-products that are in demand by industry players; the Faculty of Agriculture in particular is renowned for developing their in-house patented products. As a university located in the historical city of Palembang in the province of South Sumatra, UNSRI stands at the forefront of local development through its research collaborations with local and international partners. The province’s abundance of natural resources as well as Palembang’s strategic geographical location has warranted the Indonesian government to designate the city as one of 11 economic corridors in the government’s MP3EI Master Plan. UNSRI collaborates with international higher education institutions in Malaysia, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, China, Thailand and the USA among others. Through these synergies, the university engages in important research and development, student and faculty exchange as well as dual degree programmes. Furthermore, the university is a member of international forums such as the Indonesia — USA Rector Forum and a member of The Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning (ASAIHL). As a university dedicated to the advancement of sciences, technologies, arts and cultures, UNSRI continues to expand its line of partnership networks especially in specific research projects that cover topics in environmental sustainability and public health. Sriwijaya University is located in the historic city of Palembang, the provincial capital of South Sumatra. UNSRI lays claim to two modern campuses in Palembang and in Indralaya. The main campus at Indralaya was developed to cater to the demands for the rapid rise for higher education in the region, occupying an area of 700 hectares and hosts the majority of academic activities at UNSRI. The Palembang campus covers an area of 27 hectares offering direct access to a variety of sectors and industry players.
The university is continuously increasing its local network amongst local prominent universities as well as companies. Through such collaborations UNSRI hopes to contribute in the transfer of knowledge through research, seminars and workshops.
On 29th December 2016, Sriwijaya University successfully obtained an A accreditation as a higher education institution from Indonesia’s National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education. This latest achievement illustrates Sriwijaya University’s concrete efforts in striving to become a world-class university and as such, the university’s A accreditation is poised to make it competitively positioned going forward.
