On 12th November 2017, Sarinah hosted Youth Patriotism Day at its department store in Jakarta. Held in commemoration of Heroes Day, the event aimed to celebrate and give gratitude to Indonesian war veterans as well as the families of the country’s national heroes. Sarinah’s President Director Mr I Gusti Ngurah Putu Sugiarta Yasa and the Assistant Deputy of the Transportation and Construction division at the Ministry of State Owned Enterprises Mr Heri Purnomo were also in attendance.
Other activities held at the event included the distribution of essential food items to the surrounding community in addition to a bazaar and live music performance from the band SINERGI. Furthermore, a fashion show was on display which featured collections from local designers Indentix Batik Tulis, Essetra Indonesia, and Yunita Harun — the show highlighted the potential use of natural dyes and materials in the product lines.
Sarinah also took the opportunity to showcase the success stories of its many SME partners. The company provides a mentoring programme which guides aspiring local creative industries in various aspects of business management. This has garnered Sarinah’s reputation as the go-to shopping destination for local consumers, tourists, as well as international buyers.
As an Indonesian state-owned enterprise, Sarinah’s recent event has demonstrated the capacity of its Partnership and Community Development Programme (PKBL). Such strategies are important to not only fulfilling the basic needs of the community, but also assist and recognise the sacrifices of Indonesian veterans and their families.
