On 5th March 2017, Sarinah signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Wonosobo Regency and Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI) for the supply and retail of the locally-made Carica brand for mountain papayas which took place at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah in Jakarta. Wonosobo is well-known for its mountain papaya fruits and as such, Sarinah will assist in offering retail services for the “Carica in Syrup” products under the partnership. President Director of Sarinah, Mr Gusti Ngurah Putu Sugiarta Yasa attended the event alongside Wonosobo Regent, Mr Eko Purnomo, SE, MM as well as a number of prominent leaders in government bodies and state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
The cooperation with the Wonosobo Regency will seek to further market the Carica brand to domestic and overseas consumers while also raising awareness on the health benefits of the rare fruit. In doing so, Sarinah will also seek to engage in creating initiatives on sustainable farming practices of mountain papaya; mountain papayas are found only in the Andes region of South America and Wonosobo. As an integral commodity to the Wonosobo Regency, Sarinah is set to additionally support the livelihoods and welfare of communities in the area. Furthermore, in utilising Sarinah’s extensive local and international network, Sarinah is looking to provide entry to new export markets for the Carica brand which stands as testament to the company’s principle of assisting small and medium enterprises. The MOU signing will also ensure Sarinah's continued support for the promotion of locally-manufactured products.
