On 23rd and 25th March 2017, Perbanas Institute held open futsal trials for high school students at its campus in Jakarta. The event saw more than 500 high school students participate from across the archipelago with the top 10 best participants receiving full scholarships to study at Perbanas Institute. As a higher education institution that prides itself in producing high-ranking graduates, Perbanas Institute also places a big emphasis to non-academic fields such as arts, culture, and sport.
Present at the event was Rector of Perbanas Institute Prof. Dr. Ir. Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo, Vice Chancellor for Student General Affairs Mr Akbar Silondae Flow SH. LL.M., Ms Wiwiek Prihandini as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs as well as prominent alumni, Mr Venhard Hutabarat and Mr Benny Hera; both represented the Indonesian national futsal team. The trials also gave an opportunity for Perbanas Institute to strengthen its own futsal team which regularly participates in various national and international competitions; the event attracted students from cities such as Yogyakarta, Medan, Pekanbaru, Lampung, Pontianak, Makassar, and Kupang. Prof. Kisworo further reiterated the institute’s commitment to fostering the development of a variety of sports in Indonesia as evident from the number of alumni that have competed on an international level such as professional basketball player Mr Christiano Ronaldo Sitepu and national swimmer, Mr Dennis Joshua Tiwa.
In hosting the futsal trials, Perbanas Institute has showcased its capacity to provide the optimal combination of sports and academics to potential students seeking to pursue these opportunities. With Indonesia set to host the 2018 Asian Games, Perbanas Institute has proven to develop sporting talents that have contributed significantly to the country on the international stage.
